Spartan Node February Monthly Charity Announcement
We all love making fat stacks on a gnarly crypto trade, but at the end of the day, it’s just internet data being pushed around. There are real people in the real world who don’t have the luxury of stacking ICX on the reg and melting faces left and right.
Spartans have had a good run of luck the past couple weeks. Remember $0.70 ICX? Ha, Neither do we. At the last community meeting, the Spartan Node community voted and decided to share their good fortune this month, and every month in the future, focusing a percentage (minimum $500 per month) of our total node profit on a different charity each month. We have dubbed this new venture, The Spartan Fund. At the last Spartan Node community meeting, Sole Hope was chosen as our first Spartan Fund charity for the month of February.
What is Solo Hope?
Sole Hope is a community run initiative of 55 Ugandans that manufactures about 11,000 pairs of shoes locally for distribution to prevent jiggers. This is particularly devastating to children since they’re often playing on the ground and grow out of shoes quickly.
What are Jiggers?
Jiggers are a type of sand flea that burrow into the skin of feet and sometimes hands. This can lead to painful sores and infections Which can lead to serious damage and deformation of the feet. Removal of jiggers can only be done by cutting into the infested area and removing the egg sacs which can contain thousands of eggs. Needless to say it’s something that can have lasting impacts on the lives of those affected by this ailment.
How your donation helps?
Your donation will go to providing wound cleaning kits, education and manufacturing shoes. This is a community run initiative that looks to empower the local citizens to improve each others’ lives and help prevent the debilitating effects of jiggers. It helps people help themselves by giving them the tools and knowledge to provide and care for their families and communities.
The Spartan Node donation for the month of February will be enough to provide enough materials and support for more than 50 pairs of shoes and supplies for families in need. That’s a fairly yuge impact.
We’ll be releasing the acknowledgement of donation from Sole Hope for transparency after the donation has been received. We encourage all Spartans to continue giving to worthwhile causes.
